A cultural center of the city of Yakutsk will hold festivities devoted to traditional Yakutian food known as stroganina - slices of frozen fish or meat served cold. There will be a competition of slicers and eaters of fish and meat in various nominations.
The try-outs will be held on December 7, at the Palace of Childhood and in the House of Culture Named after Gagarin.
Local residents and guests of the city, who come to visit the festival of stroganina, will have an opportunity to taste different sorts of frozen fish. They will also be able to take part in various competitions and sports contests. The visitors will also have a chance to purchase frozen fish at very good prices.
Stroganina in Yakutia is loved by many. Local residents tried to get the maximum from the combination of unbearable cold and delicious kinds of fish species that live in northern rivers. Making stroganina in Yakutia is a ritual.
Stroganina has very good healing qualities. The members of many expeditions to the shores of the Arctic Ocean could not survive the local cold. Many people died of scurvy, because they could not take fresh fruit and vegetables with them. The local residents, who never ate apples, did not suffer from the disease. The people ate stroganina and were immune to various diseases because of the vitamins and fats of local fish.
