Over 35 suspected Taliban killed by U.S.-led coalition and Afghan troops

U.S.-led coalition and Afghan troops left more than 35 Taliban militants dead, a coalition said. The clash, where ground forces and aircraft were used, took place in volatile southern Afghanistan.

Troops clashed for five hours with groups of militants north of Sangin district in Helmand province on Thursday, the statement said.

"More than 35 Taliban fighters were killed" by coalition and Afghan troops, it said.

The coalition account could not be independently verified due to the remoteness of the area.
