School girl in U.S. wanted to poison teacher

A 13-year-old middle school student was charged with trying to poison her teacher by putting dry erase board cleaner in his coffee cup, police said Tuesday.

The eighth-grader at Syms Middle School, whose identity was not released, was taken into custody Monday after another student told the social studies teacher he saw the girl put the chemical in the coffee cup.

Police believe the student doused her teacher's coffee with the chemical at least three times over three weeks. The teacher also was not identified.

The teen, who remained in juvenile detention Tuesday, was charged with attempt to poison, police spokeswoman Paula Hooker said. The teacher didn't suffer any serious health problems, and was at school Tuesday.

The spray-on cleaner, Expo, warns on its label that it may be harmful if swallowed, AP reports.
