At least 20 killed and more than 200 injured after Ind., Ky. Tornado

A deadly tornado that ripped through the area early Sunday hit Ellis Park, killing three horses, injuring track workers and destroying large sections of the grandstand.

The twister tore across southwestern Indiana and western Kentucky just after 1 a.m., killing at least 16 people in nearby southern Indiana, wrecking homes and knocking out power to thousands. It touched down near Henderson, then jumped the Ohio River into Indiana, officials said.

No deaths were reported in Kentucky. There were reports of wind damage elsewhere in Kentucky, including Munfordville, several counties to the southeast of Henderson, reports MSNBC.

According to New York Times, at least 18 people were reported killed and more than 200 were injured today when a tornado hit parts of Indiana and Kentucky in the dead of night.

The tornado formed along a line of severe thunder storms after midnight and roared east of Evansville through Henderson County, Ky., touching down around 2 a.m., the authorities said.
