Israeli troops arrest 15-year-old Palestinian boy on smuggling mortar shell

Israelis arrested a 15-year-old Palestinian boy on Thursday as he tried to smuggle a large mortar shell across a military checkpoint, the army said.

The boy arrived at the Hawara checkpoint outside the northern West Bank city of Nablus on Thursday morning. Soldiers there discovered that the boy was carrying two knives and a 52 mm mortar shell, the army said. The boy was arrested and taken for questioning.

Militant groups have increasingly used children and teenagers to try to smuggle weapons across Israeli checkpoints because they attract less attention from soldiers, reports the AP.
