A moderate earthquake shook Tokyo and suburbs. There were no reports of any injuries or damage. There was no danger of tsunami, the Meteorological Agency said.
The magnitude 5.1 quake, which hit at 7:15 p.m. (1015 GMT), was centered southern Ibaraki Prefecture (state), about 70 kilometers (43 miles) north of Tokyo, at 50 kilometers (30 miles) underground, the agency said, the AP reports.
