Ukraine's chief prosecutor says they know who ordered Gongadze's slaying

Ukraine's chief prosecutor said Wednesday that investigators know who ordered the slaying of investigative journalist Heorhiy Gongadze. "The killers executed a criminal order. We know the person who gave this order," General Prosecutor Svyatoslav Piskun told reporters. He refused to identify that person, but said that the suspected killers had been found. He declared the case solved. Gongadze, an Internet journalist who wrote about high-level corruption, was abducted in downtown Kiev in September 2000, and his decapitated body was later found buried in a forest outside the capital. Gongadze's death sparked months of protests and accusations against former President Leonid Kuchma, who the opposition alleged was involved in the killing. Kuchma has vehemently denied allegations of involvement. Associated Press
