UK Airbus lands in Amsteradm: suspected explosion threat

&to=' target=_blank>British Airways flight from Berlin to London has made an unscheduled landing at Amsterdam's Schiphol airport as a security precaution, the airline says.

The aircraft was escorted by two F-16 fighter planes after the pilot requested the landing, officials said.

"At the moment there are no more details of the specific threat," BA spokeswoman Sophie Greenyer said.

"All passengers have disembarked and have been taken to a part of the airport for security screening."

Authorities were also checking the plane, flight 983, police said, informs Reuters.

According to ITV, Flight number 983 was flying from Berlin to London with 118 passengers on board when it was escorted to Amsterdam Schiphol by two F-16 fighter planes. The Airbus A319, which left Berlin 12.30pm UK time, has landed safely and all passengers have disembarked. It is currently being checked by the authorities.

It is also believed that Dutch military jets escorted the plane in to Amsterdam's Schiphol airport.

"There was a specific threat to the aircraft but we’re not releasing details," she added. "The aircraft landed at 13:56 local time and the passengers have disembarked. The passengers have been taken to a part of the airport where they will undergo security screening."

The plane landed safely, and all passengers were taken off the aircraft, Dutch military police spokesman Rob Stenakker said.
