Body of 7th mountain climber found on Khan-Tengri

Russian Emergencies Ministry rescue workers found the body of the seventh mountain climber who was swept by an avalanche on Thursday on the Khan-Tengri peak.

"It has been confirmed that the mountain climber who was found is a citizen of the Czech Republic," a spokesman for the information department of the ministry said. "Next to him rescuers discovered another body, but they cannot take him out because he is trapped between blocks of ice."

Fourteen mountain climbers from Russia, Ukraine and the Czech Republic were buried under the snow by an avalanche that occurred on Thursday between the Khan-Tengri and Chapayev peaks at a height of more than 6,000 meters. According to the ministry, six of them died, including one Russian from the city of Novosibirsk. Two mountain climbers, including one Russian, have been hospitalized. The fate of the other five is unknown.

The Khan Tengri peak (7,010 meters) is believed to be one of the most dangerous in the world and has a 6A category of difficulty.
