The press service of the Ukrainian Emergencies Ministry told RIA Novosti that since clean up work began at the scene, 138,000 damaged shells have been collected, 13,700 of which were already destroyed.

During clean up work, 2,000 homes and 36 kilometers of road have been repaired. The disposal of 22,000 metric tons of ammunition began two weeks ago and is expected to continue for two months. The fire at the 275th ammunition storage base near the settlement of Novobogdanovka in the Melitopol district began on May 6 around 12:50 p.m. local time. Ammunition was scattered in a radius of 10-40 kilometers. Five people died because of the fire - one from a wound and four from heart attacks.

Law enforcement agencies said that the fire was caused by a failure to observe safety regulations. The military prosecutor has charged six soldiers involved in the fire.

The four other soldiers who were charged are in the custody of a military unit.

The damages to the Ukrainian Defense Ministry were estimated at $424.9 million and civilian property loss was estimated at $282,200.
