Relatives of Russian air crash victims to receive compensations soon?

Russia's Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov has asked the president of Switzerland to speed up the establishment of a fund and the start of payments to the relatives of Russians who died in an air crash over Bodensee, he told journalists following his talks with the Swiss president.

A collision between a Russian Tu-154 of Bashkir Airlines and a cargo Boeing killed 71 people, including 69 Russians. The disaster occurred in July of 2002.

According to the minister, the Russian side finds it important that two processes are going on concurrently. On the one hand, experts are elucidating the causes of the disaster, which may take some time, and on the other, work is proceeding to set up compensation funds, which will make it possible to make payments to relatives of the victims.

"The sooner we embark on the work, the more quickly the edge will be taken off this problem," the minister emphasized.
