Over 3 tons of drugs seized on Tajik-Afghan border since year start

Russian border guards have seized over 3,380 kg of drugs, including 2,140 kg of heroin, on the border between Tajikistan and Afghanistan since this year's start.

Close on 100 border trespassers have been detained over the past 8 months of 2003, which is twice as much compared to the similar period in 2002, reported the Russian border guards command in Tajikistan.

There were about 75 border incidents, 19 skirmishes, and more than 45 drug couriers' breakthrough attempts were averted.

Border details have come under small arms fire from Afghan and Tajik territories ten times.
