Criminal proceedings launched to investigate deaths on Ioshkar-Ola military testing ground

The military garrison prosecutor in Ioshkar-Ola /Republic of Mari El, the Volga federal district/ has launched criminal proceedings pursuant to the article on violation of safety regulations on highly explosive objects to investigate the deaths of people at the military testing ground near the city, RIA Novosti learned from the press service of the Chief Military Prosecutor's Office on Wednesday.

Servicemen of the Ioshkar-Ola garrison's military prosecution and the Volga-Urals military district are now working at the site of the tragedy. "Investigation is trying to find out how civilians penetrated the territory of the military facility and what caused their deaths," the prosecution's representative explained.

Five bodies of civilians were found on Tuesday at the testing ground near Ioshkar-Ola. These people are believed to have been engaged in collecting non-ferrous metals and to have violated the ban on entering the military facilities, a source in the law-enforcement structures said.
