French sportswoman perishes on the distance of the world championship in multisport in Kyrgyzstan

A sportswoman from France, 46-year-old Dominique Robert, perished on the first day of the world championship in multisport in Kyrgyzstan.

As RIA Novosti was told in the Interior Ministry of Kyrgyzstan on Wednesday, the tragedy occurred on Tuesday afternoon during the descent of the teams by an impetuous mountain river in the Dzhety-Oguzsky district of the Issyk-Kul Region of the republic.

The French team ENDURANCE-AGF which Robert was a member of lost control, and the canoe overturned. The woman hit her head against the stones. Though she was immediately given medical assistance, the efforts to save the sportswoman failed. The other teams reached the finish of the stage without losses.

As many as 36 squads from 18 countries, including Russia, are participating in the world championship in multisport.

The route of the championship passes across the whole territory of Kyrgyzstan from the north to the south and stretches for 950 kilometres. The sportsmen and women are expected to cover it within 7-10 days.

By the rules of the competition, during the championship the entrants will have to vie in rafting, paddling, cycling, horse riding, rock-climbing and other extreme sports.

The Raid Gauloises extreme-adventure race is being held in the territory of the Commonwealth of Independent States for the first time.
