Chinese poachers ousted from the Amur river

Far Eastern border guards have stopped 30 transgressors of the Russian state border in the course of the Amur Fishing Season-2003 operation.

Head of the press service of the Far Eastern regional department Sergei Volkov said on Monday that the Amur Fishing Season-2003 operation on the preservation of biological resources of the Amur and the Ussuri rivers had been held since May 15th and was due to end on June 15th. In this period Amur sturgeon and great Siberian sturgeon, the most precious species of fish, spawn. The personnel of border control units and river border detachments as well as inspectors of 18 state departments and organisations are taking part in the operation.

Since the operation started, Sergei Volkov said, more than 100 Chinese poaching boats have been ousted from Russian territorial waters and more than 60 kilometres of poaching nets have been removed.
