SARS death toll reaches 689
The death toll for the SARS virus has reached 689 people. According to the World Health Organization there are 8,117 registered cases of the infection in 28 countries. In one day the number of patients has increased by 77 people. Moreover, seven people have died - three in China, two in Hong Kong and two in Singapore.
The majority of new cases of the virus at the present time are in Taiwan. There are a total of 538 registered cases of the SARS virus to date in Taiwan.
