Dozens of New Forest Fires Registered over Past 24 Hours in Russia's Far East

Over the past 24 hours 58 fires were registered in the forests of the Russia's Far East. This was disclosed to a RIA Novosti correspondent on Monday by Head specialist of the Regional Department of the State Control of the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources Yelena Svischeva.

All in all 160 fires, covering the territory of 21,669 hectares, were registered in the forests of the region on Monday. 48 other fires were registered in the forests of other departments.

The most complicated situation is observed in the Khabarovsk district, which witnesses 60 forest fires. 33 fires in the Amursk district, 12 - in the Jewish autonomous district and 7 - in Primorye.

Approximately 1,500 people, dozens of aircraft units and 250 units of heavy machinery participate in the elimination of fires.

1,386 forest fires were registered in the southern districts of the region since the beginning of the dry season, Svischeva said.

Zero forest fires were registered in the region's northern district, where the snow had not still melted and the soil was still wet.
