Magadan Governor Was Killed for Quotas of Marine Biological Resources

The main version of the murder of Magadan Governor Valentin Tsvetkov in Moscow last autumn is connected with the distribution of quotas for the catch of marine biological resources, Interior Minister Boris Gryzlov said in Magadan (Far East) on April 24th at a conference of the heads of the local power departments.

The minister said "there are several suspects who are directly connected with this scandalous crime." The killers have been established and put on the federal wanted list. "We are now trying to establish the name of the contractor," said Gryzlov.

In his words, "the investigation group has collected evidence, testimony and proof which will ensure the solution of the crime."

The minister focused the attention of the heads of power departments on the struggle against illegal trafficking of precious metals in Kolyma.

Before leaving for Khabarovsk in the evening today, Boris Gryzlov plans to visit the geological museum of the regional gold industry and the Kolyma refinery where placer gold and gold ore are smelted into ingots, and meet with active members of the Magadan regional branch of the United Russia party.

On Thursday evening Boris Gryzlov will leave for Khabarovsk (centre of another Far Eastern region), where a visiting collegiate session of the Interior Ministry on the struggle against the influence of crime on the Far Eastern economy will be held on April 25th.

Boris Gryzlov and Konstantin Pulikovsky, presidential representative in the Far Eastern Federal District, will chair the session, which will be attended by representatives of the Foreign Intelligence Service, the Federal Security Service, the Office of the prosecutor General and the Federal Frontier Service of Russia.
