India Registers New Case of SARS

A new case of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome was registered in the Indian capital on Saturday.

According to the United News of India (UNI) agency, doctors at one of the capital's hospitals confirmed the diagnosis of the viral infection made for a 42-year-old New Zealand resident admitted three days ago for suspicion of SARS. The patient arrived in New Delhi from Bangkok. He was immediately taken to hospital with the dangerous disease symptoms.

Doctors assess a better condition of the foreigner placed in an isolated ward. There are no such symptoms as heavy breathing or high temperature, but medics are watching the patient attentively.

This is a second registered SARS case in the country. The day before a 32-year-old Indian was dismissed from the treatment department of the Medical College of Goa state. The ship engineer must have been infected with atypical pneumonia, or SARS, during his last ship travel to Singapore.

In order to prevent the infiltration and spreading of SARS, the Indian authorities introduced strict medical control in international sea- and airports. Primarily, it concerns passengers arriving from countries where SARS cases have been registered.
