Arms and ammunition cache discovered in Chechnya

An arms and ammunition cache has been discovered in the Kurchaloi district of Chechnya.

According to the staff of the counter-terrorist operation in the North Caucasus, the cache was located in a forest at the outskirts of the Mairtup village. It contained hand grenades, a machine gun, hunter rifles, a pistol and a home-made explosive device. A search operation to find those who made the cache and an investigation into the case have been launched.

Over the past 24 hours, police offices have carried out three search and pre-emptive operations. More than 26,000 people and more than 18,000 vehicles were checked in residential areas, at checkpoints and on motorways. There have been confiscated eight rocket-launchers, a machine gun, assault rifle, pistol and five hunter rifles, as well as 15 rounds for various types of rocket launchers, 13 hand grenades, more than 2,000 bullets of various calibre and 800g of various explosive agents. Thirteen illegal mini oil refineries have been destroyed.
