Chechen terrorists besieged in Chechen gorge make no efforts to break through

Chechen terrorists who were surrounded in the Kerigo gorge last night, have made no efforts to break through the siege. This information was disclosed in the early hours of Tuesday by the press centre of the Russian Federal Frontier Service /FFS/.

According to the FFS, no operations to eliminate the illegal armed formation were carried out in the Kerigo gorge last evening and night.

FFS officers do not rule out that the bandits who suffered heavy casualties during clashes with Russian border guards and air and artillery strikes delivered by the Joint Group of Forces and the Granitsa /Border/ Group, have changed their tactic and will now try to leave secretly the area infiltrating through Russian lines in small groups.

The 60-strong armed group penetrated the Kerigo gorge /Chechnya/ from Georgia in the early hours of Saturday, July 27th.

Gennady Troshev, the Commander of the North Caucasian Military District, reported on Monday that 12 militants were killed, another 20 were imprisoned. Some of the latter "have already started giving evidence."
