International humanitarian organizations suspended activities in Chechnya

International humanitarian organizations, working in the North Caucasus, have suspended their activities in Chechnya since Monday. They have also ceased their work in Ingushetia for two days.

The decision was caused by the kidnapping of coordinator of the Russian non-governmental humanitarian organization "Friendship" Nina Davydovich on July 23rd, said Viktoria Zotikova, press secretary of the Department for coordinating UN humanitarian issues. Davydovich was captured by unknown people in Chechnya.

In this way the UN organizations express their solidarity with the "Friendship", their executive partner, Zotikova said. The organization carries out educational and psycho-social programmes for children in Chechnya.
