Some Chechen Warlords Stake Mainly On Terrorist Acts

Now that large bandit units have been defeated, separate remaining warlords count on terrorist activity as their last resort, reported Federal Security Service director Nikolai Patrushev in Khankala today. On his part, Russian Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov, who is currently visiting Chechnya, told journalists that, as of today, the defence ministry has withdrawn around 5,000 servicemen and the bulk of the materiel from Chechnya. No plans concerning further troop reductions stationed in Chechnya were made so far. In the meantime, Interior Minister Boris Gryzlov is resolved to "take adequate measures" against Chechen extremists, whose increasing terrorist activities on the republic's territory harm civilians as well as the military.
