Hurricane Hits Tallinn, Causes Extensive Damage

According to preliminary data, damage by a hurricane which hit Tallinn last night may total several millions kroons. Bus traffic was disrupted and several buildings were damaged in downtown Tallin and in its Lasnamae district, as was reported in the Tallinn City Hall. One man was seriously injured and taken to hospital. According to the information of the Estonian Rescue Department, the wind speeds reached 35 metres a second. In all, 446 transformer sub-stations in Estonia, including 264 on the island of Saaremaa were put out of action, the department said.
