Bislan Gantamirov: Situation In Chechnya Has Changed For The Better

Bislan Gantamirov, the Chief Federal Inspector of the Southern Federal District, stated that the situation in Chechnya "had substantially changed for the better." In addition, he stressed that "more tangible positive results should be expected over the next two or three months." Gantamirov did not expand on why he mentioned this time span. Gantamirov also denied all allegations that he would be appointed as the head of the Chechen government. He stated that "a reshuffling of Chechen authorities was not expected." Speaking about the objectives of his visit to Chechnya, Gantamirov said that he had come to the republic "to fulfil his direct duties as a Federal Inspector." He stated that he "intended to work in Chechnya and his absence from the republic would not last long." Gantamirov avoided giving a direct answer regarding the post he expected taking up when he returned to Chechnya. "It doesn't really matter. I have already held every possible post, so I wouldn't be surprised if I ended up with this job or another," the Federal Inspector said.
