Agreement Reached At Bonn Conference On Intra-afghan Settlement Concerning Quotas Of Participation In Provisional Government

An agreement was reached at a UN conference in Bonn on intra-Afghan settlement concerning quotas of participation in the provisional government for each of four political groupings represented here. This information was provided by a German service of the France Presse information agency with reference to a source from the delegation of the United Anti-Taliban Front (OAF) otherwise called the Northern Alliance. Thus, the tough discussion on candidates to the posts in the cabinet of ministers has ended, local observers believe. Early this day it has become known that the two major delegations out of four participating in the negotiations -- the United Anti-Taliban Front and the Rome group which unites supporters of ex-king Mohammad Zahir Shah, and ethnic Uzbek Abdullah Sattar Sirat is also its member, agreed on his candidature to the post of head of the provisional government of Afghanistan. If this takes place the authoritative Pushtun leader from southern Afghanistan Hamid Karzai will be pushed aside.
