Nagorno Karabakh conflict: 33 killed over 200 wounded

As a result of the conflict in Nagorno Karabakh on April 2-3, at least 33 people, both military and civilians, were killed and more than 200 were wounded, the regional office of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in the Caucasus, Central Asia and Ukraine reported.

The exact number of wounded individuals has not been officially confirmed yet. According to unofficial reports, as many as 200 people may have been injured in the conflict.  

The villages, where the clashes occurred, have the total population of about 14,400 people. The UN has no information "about infrastructure damage, evacuation of civilians or humanitarian needs." 

"The Government of Azerbaijan informed that there is no internal displacement of people there, while representatives of the Armenian authorities said that 50 people asked for temporary asylum in Armenia. The two government announced that international humanitarian assistance was not required," the report says. 

The situation in the zone of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict sharply escalated on April 2 at night. The parties accused each other of ceasefire violations on the contact line. The Armenian Defense Ministry said that along the line of contact in Nagorno Karabakh, violent clashes erupted between the armed forces of Azerbaijan and the forces of the unrecognized republic of Nagorno Karabakh.
