3 British Soldiers Killed in Afghanistan

British Defence Ministry sources have reported more victims among the ranks of Western troops in Afghanistan, with three UK soldiers killed by a bomb while patrolling an unspecified zone on foot in the southern province of Helmand, a Taliban stronghold, AGI - Agenzia Giornalistica Italia reports.

It takes the total death toll for UK forces on the security mission to 199.

Two victims were from 2nd Battalion, The Rifles. The unit has lost 11 members on a four-month tour, more than any other fighting force.

The third dead soldier was a member of the injury-ravaged 40 Regiment Royal Artillery, on attachment to the Rifles' battle group.

Two other patrol members were injured, one critically, The Sun reports.

Lt Col Nick Richardson said: "Today has been incredibly sad for Task Force Helmand, particularly for The Rifles battle group, with whom all three soldiers were serving.

"We all feel the loss of these brave soldiers, but it is family, friends and loved ones who feel the greatest pain and we offer our heartfelt condolences," Mirror.co.uk reports.
