IAF Bombs Gaza Tunnel

Israel Air Force (IAF) planes bombed a tunnel in southern Gaza Strip overnight, following Sunday night's Qassam and mortar shell fire from the Strip at Israel.

The pilots reported hitting their mark. The Reuters news agency quoted Hamas sources as saying no injuries were reported in the strike, Ynetnews reports.

Hours before IAF's raid, mortar shells were fired from Gaza at the Erez border crossing between the strip and Israel, when a Palestinian patient was transferred to Israel for treatment, the reports said.

Early Sunday, a Qassam rocket fired from Gaza struck an open field near Israel's Sedot Negev. It is said to be the first Qassam rocket attack from Gaza in nearly one month, Xinhua reports.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday that Israel's withdrawal from the Gaza Strip four years ago was a mistake that will not be repeated.

Mr. Netanyahu said the pullout in 2005 did not bring peace or security. Two years later, the Palestinian militant faction Hamas, which opposes peace with Israel, battled rival faction Fatah to take control of Gaza, Voice of America reports.
