Glass fiber wallpaper, composed of quartz sand, lime, and dolomite, serves as a reinforcing mesh that inhibits the spread of micro-cracks. This material is chemically neutral, fire-resistant, and can last up to 30 years, supporting up to 15 repainting cycles without requiring removal.
Unlike non-woven options, fiberglass does not accumulate static electricity or attract dust. However, its weight requires specialized high-adhesion adhesives; using universal glues often leads to peeling at the seams after the paint dries. Finisher Sergey Ryabov notes that walls must be primed before application to prevent excessive paint absorption, which can increase material consumption by 1.5 times.
For homes prone to shrinkage and settlement, cellulose-based liquid wallpapers eliminate the risk of splitting seams. Because these mixtures are applied with a plastic spatula, they can mask surface irregularities up to 3 mm and allow for localized repairs by re-wetting and smoothing damaged sections.
The effectiveness of this coating depends on strict preparation: the mixture must be soaked entirely for several hours. According to structural standards, partial mixing or excessive water reduces plasticity, causing the material to slide off vertical surfaces. Designer Darya Lebedeva emphasizes that the vapor permeability of these cellulose compositions is essential for integrating features like vertical gardening, as it prevents moisture buildup and mold growth.
Self-adhesive vinyl panels (3mm thickness) provide a mechanical barrier suitable for kitchens and entryways. While they offer higher resistance to physical damage than traditional synthetic rolls, their installation on uneven surfaces requires a lathing frame to prevent pattern distortion.
Building control engineer Roman Volkov warns that in new buildings, the linear expansion coefficient of vinyl can lead to deformation if there are sharp temperature swings. Furthermore, since adhesive properties degrade after one year of storage, verifying the production date is critical. In bathrooms or areas with direct water contact, panel joints must be additionally sealed.
