On the 60th anniversary of the historic victory at Stalingrad, I would like to express my gratitude and admiration to the great Russian people. As an American we are taught that it was we who basically won the war against Hitler. Emphasis is always put on our D-day of 6 June 1944, but less attention on your tremendous and heroic defense that truly broke the back of the nazi war machine is given. Of course all who know history know the truth of who bore the brunt of the war and made the greatest sacrifice ever in battle. So here is one of many Americans who humbly salute the brave, but not forgotten, heroes of Stalingrad.
