First H1N1 Death Registered in India

India on Monday registered its first swine flu death after a 14-year-old girl in the western city of Pune died from the disease, media reports said.

The teenager was admitted to a private hospital on July 27, six days after initially feeling unwell and consulting doctors. She was put on an intensive care ward on July 29 and confirmed to have swine flu the following day , AFP reports.

Health officials say the victim was a male student at Stellenbosch University in Western Cape province. He died July 28 of cardiac arrest, several days after falling sick , Voice of America reports.

New Delhi/Pune, Aug 3 (IANS) India reported its first swine flu death Monday when a 14-year-old girl succumbed to the influenza A (H1N1) virus in Pune. The girl was suffering from the flu for over a fortnight and her death was caused due to “delayed treatment”, health officials said , Thaindian.com reports.
