Stanton Energy Plant is on fire. The blaze flared up after 1:00 p.m. in a six-story building.
The fire-brigade was called immediately as the building contained hazardous materials.
The facility owned by Orlando Utilities Commission is situating 13 miles east-southeast of Orlando ’s downtown area and generates electricity from two coal-fired units and a natural gas unit.
Nine patients were treated for smoke inhalation and difficulty breathing. Anothe 15 patients were sent to hospitals for minor injuries. For now no injuries or deaths have been reported.
