"Ghost bouillon" anyone?

A Chinese man has been feeding his wife soup cooked from human remains for 16 years, while trying to cure her

Police arrested a 51-year-old local resident by the name of Hong in one of the Chinese cities in the province of Sichuan. Apparently, the man has been feeding his sick wife dead human bodies from the local cemetery for many years. The caring husband would cook his wife broth from human meat and use specially made hot-pack made of crushed human bones and apply it to her foreheed.

Perhaps, some local charlatan convinced the man that human meat can in fact cure his wife’s illness. It did not take long for the trusting man to find his supply. Starting from 1988, Mr. Hong began walking to a neighboring cemetery and cutting pieces of meat off of corpses. At times, he even took the entire bodies with him home.

It took 16 years for police to arrest the man at last, reports “West China City Daily.” In the course of all these years, disappearance of corpses stirred wild rumors among local residents. Relatives of the dead even had to be on duty guarding graves of their deceased loved ones.

Some of the Chinese regions believe that the so-called “ghost bouillon”—soup cooked from bones of dead women, is capable of treating many illnesses.
