Opposition Breaks into Iraq's Embassy to Tehran

Some 50 to 60 Iraqi Shiite opposition activists seized the Iraqi embassy in Tehran on Friday, reports the Emirate News Agency WAM. They broke into the embassy smashing everything around and took away the diplomatic mission's archives.

According to the Arab electronic edition Alefiya, those were fighters of the Imam Badr brigade, a militant grouping of the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq /SCRI/. They were chanting "Death to America," "Death to Saddam!," says Alefiya.

The SCRI had declined to take part in a conference of the united Iraqi opposition, due in the southern Iraqi city of Nasiriya on April 12, neither will it join a would-be interim government of Iraq.

The SCRI is headed by Ayatolla Mohammed Baqir al-Hakim, a leader of Iraq's Shiites.
