Mass riots spark in Moscow after Russian man stabbed

The Moscow police sum up the aftermath of the incident in West Biryulyovo, where local residents staged mass riots in connection with the murder of 25 -year-old man Yegor Shcherbakov. A native from the Caucasus stabbed the young man, a Muscovite, on the night of October 10 in front of his girlfriend's eyes.

At first, the initiative group organized "people's assembly" with a requirement to find the murderer. The people were accusing the police of not performing their duties properly. By Sunday evening, the radically-minded part of protesters, more than 1,000 people, led by nationalists and football fans, smashed windows at Biryuza shopping center.  Afterwards, the young people moved towards the vegetable warehouse, where migrants work.

As reported by the press service of the Central directorate for Internal Affairs of Russia in Moscow, the enraged young people broke the entrance gate of the warehouse and damaged three refrigeration chambers. Later, near Biryulyovo-Tovarnaya railway station, the youngsters smashed several parked cars and pogromed the street shop that was selling watermelons. The situation was regulated after midnight, when riot police dispersed the troublemakers.

As many as 380 people, allegedly involved in the riots, were arrested and taken to police stations. They are being questioned in a criminal case on hooliganism filed under Part 2 of Article 213 of the Russian Penal Code. For the time being, the detainees are held as witnesses on the case. Among them, there are 14 followers of the banned National Bolshevik Party.

As for the vegetable warehouse, it is closed on Monday for cleaning day, as the announcement says on the gate, RIA Novosti reports.

To thoroughly investigate the incident, the police will carefully study videos and photos of Sunday's event.

During the clashes with riot police, six policemen were injured, two riot policemen were hospitalized. According to other reports, the number of hospitalized police officers is larger.

According to various sources, as many as 23 people in total were injured in the clashes. Eight of them were sent to medical hospitals, six others refused to be hospitalized, nine were recommended to undergo outpatient treatment.

Reportedly, the suspect in the murder of he Russian man is a merchant seling shawarma (vegetable and chicken lavash wraps). However, a local woman told the Komsomolskaya Pravda that she had seen the suspect many times before collecting scrap metal.
