Iran turns into slaughterhouse

Not less than 20 people were killed in the course of yesterday’s clashes between the followers of the reformist opposition on one side, and the police and Brigade Basij gunmen on the other side. Two of the victims were killed as a result of a suicide attack near the Tomb of Ayatollah Khomeini.

Several hundreds of people were hospitalized with gunshot and lacerated wounds, as well as with gas poisoning. The clashes continued throughout the night. Tens of thousands of opposition followers took part in the protest actions in Iran’s capital, Teheran. The police used tear gas, batons and rubber bullets to break up the demonstration. Many of the protesters were cheering “Death to the dictator!” and “Death to dictatorship!” A shocking video of a young woman dying during the demonstration was posted on YouTube.

Mir-Hossein Moussavi posted a message on his Facebook profile calling upon a new presidential vote in Iran under the guidance of an independent board rather than the Council of the Islamic Revolution Guards, which totally supports the sitting authorities in the nation. It is impossible to say whether the message has been fabricated or not. Moussavi also wrote that Iran’s spiritual leader Ayatollah Khomeini supposedly cast doubts on the results of the presidential vote. The opposition leader said that the Iranian administration system was turning into a slaughterhouse. Moussavi also wrote that he was ready to become a martyr for his country. A spokesperson for his headquarters confirmed the Iranian opposition leader’s intention to become a Shakhid.

Many blogs quoted the death note of a female student from Tehran, who was going to participate in the actions of protest despite the official decision to prohibit the event.

“Tomorrow is a big day, maybe I'll get killed tomorrow! - I will participate in the demonstrations tomorrow. Maybe they will turn violent. Maybe I will be one of the people who is going to get killed. I'm listening to all my favorite music. I even want to dance to a few songs. I always wanted to have very narrow eyebrows. Yes, maybe I will go to the salon before I go tomorrow!” the blogger wrote.
