G-8 talks focus on fight against child porn, terrorism and piracy

Security and justice officials from the Group of Eight held more talks Friday on cooperation against the child pornography, terrorism and product piracy.

U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, British policing and security minister Tony McNulty and Russian Interior Minister Rashid Nurgaliyev were among the delegates at the second day of closed-door meetings hosted by Germany, which holds the G-8's rotating presidency.

The meetings come ahead of the group's main summit June 6-8 in the northern resort town of Heiligendamm, where Chancellor Angela Merkel will meet with the leaders of the United States, Russia, Britain, France, Italy, Canada and Japan.

After the first session Thursday, the G-8 security and justice ministers resolved to work more closely together in the fight against child pornography and abuse, and pushed for other countries to adopt international standards.

They also talked cooperation in the fight against terrorism, with a focus on controlling the use of the Internet by extremists.

"Because of the global network that the Internet represents, we need international cooperation," German Interior Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble said.
