Russian government rejects the “anti-beer” bill

Russian government will not approve the bill that imposes certain limits on retail sale and consumption of beer, stated Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Zhukov in his Wednesday’s interview to a Strana.Ru correspondent.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, imposing limits on beer consumption in public places basically equates this particular product with the rest of the alcoholic beverages. Zhukov states it would be difficult to execute the law in the first place due to the lack of sanctions for violating proposed norms.

“That is why the parliament considers it appropriate to cross this clause out of the bill,” emphasized Zhukov. In addition, the bill does not specify where such ban on retail sale of beer is intended to be introduced. This in turn can lead authorities to abuse their powers while establishing contradictory law enforcement practices, stated Zhukov.
