Leaders of Russia, France and Germany to join efforts in fighting terrorism

Russian President Vladimir Putin received French President Jacques Chirac and German Chancellor in Sochi’s residence of the Russian President.
The cooperation between the three countries allows to prevent new crisis situations in the world, said President Putin at the press conference after the meeting.

Vladimir Putin also said that Russia, Germany and France are neither going to establish some sort of a closed club of the three countries nor to make counterbalance to the relations with the other countries. The meeting meant following the common strategy on solving the pressing international issues and the issues of the relations between the three countries.

According to President Putin, the issues of the relations between Russia and the EU were discussed at the meeting, including "implementing the strategy on establishing 4 common areas”. The problems of economy have been discussed as well. "We also discussed the global problems of security and fighting international terrorism whose threat is still big, despite all the efforts made", said President Putin.

In turn, Gerhard Schroeder confirmed that “our efforts are not directed against anybody”. But their effect  is "big as the well-being of the peoples of Russia and Europe depends on the partnership between the three countries”.

Vladimir Putin said again about the importance of joint efforts for fighting international terrorism. "We are cooperating with all the countries of the world in fighting international terrorism, both on bilateral basis and through the international organizations. The recent events in the world, in Russia, in Iraq – the problems our French partners encountered – demonstrate the danger of international terrorism for all the countries of the world”, said the Russian President at the press-conference in Sochi on August 30.

"We need joint efforts for standing against the threat", said the head of Russia. Vladimir Putin assured that Russia is ready to cooperate both with Europe and with the USA in fighting international terrorism.

The leaders of Russia, Germany and France made their meetings a tradition. They met in March 1998 in Moscow, in April 2003 in St. Petersburg, in September 2003 in New York.
