Prague: FBI and European police officers meet to discuss organized crime

A three-day meeting of a group designed to facilitate cooperation between the FBI and central European police forces in tackling Russian-speaking organized crime opened Tuesday in Prague, an official said.

The seventh meeting of the Central European Working Group, or CEWG, was to focus on investigations of organized crime in the Eurasian space, Czech police spokesman David Kubalak said. Participants were scheduled to discuss successful international investigations, to share views on effective and failed investigative techniques and to search for solutions to cases left unresolved, he said.

Some 60 police officials and other authorities from 16 countries, including FBI agents, were attending, the AP reports.

The FBI established the group in the early 1990s. The last meeting, which took place in Budapest, Hungary, dealt with human trafficking. AM
