MiG sells 16 aircraft to India

The Russian aircraft manufacturing corporation MiG has signed a $700m contract on supplies of 16 MiG-29K carrier-based fighters within the framework of the Russian-Indian deal on transferring and equipping the aircraft carrier Admiral Gorshkov to India. According to the contract, the corporation will supply 12 one-seater and 4 two-seater fighters by 2007 to 2008, the press service of MiG reported to RBC. The contract envisages an option for supplies of another 30 aircraft by 2015.

As reported earlier, the deal on transferring the aircraft carrier Admiral Gorshkov to India was signed in Delhi (India) on January 20 during Russian Defense Minister Sergey Ivanov's official visit. The deal envisages the repair and upgrade of the aircraft carrier by equipping it with the latest weapons and combat aircraft (MiG-29Ks and Ka-27 and Ka-31 helicopters). On the whole, the deal totals about $1.5bn.
