Vladimir Putin to personally award scientists Global Energy prize

Russian President Vladimir Putin will personally award the prize of 'Global Energy' to Nick Holonyak, Gennady Mesyats and Jan Douglas Smith in the palace of congresses at Konstantinov palace in Strelne on June 15, according to the ceremony's press center.

The international energy prize 'Global Energy' was founded in Russia at the end of 2002 by the initiative of Nobel prize winner Zhores Alferov and is the first prize in world fundamental and applied science which will be annually awarded for innovations, development and acquisition in the area of energy. The prize was founded with the support of leading Russian energy companies - Gazprom, United Energy Systems and Yukos. The fund for the new science awards is valued at USD 900 thousand in 2003.
