High technologies week opens in St. Petersburg

On Monday St. Petersburg hosted the opening of a Week of High Technologies, with the 8th International exhibition congress "High Technologies. Innovations. Investments" held in its framework. Over 40 Russian innovation enterprises have displayed their projects at the exhibition.

The action is held in St. Petersburg for a third consecutive year. This year besides the International High-Tech exhibition congress it includes the 3rd International specialised exhibition "Training technologies", the exhibition of new transport technologies "Expotrans" and the exhibition congress "St. Petersburg's intellectual property." "The current exhibition shows that science and technologies are gradually developing," Russian Deputy Minister of Industry, Science and Technology Valery Goloshchapov pointed out at the ceremony of the Week opening. According to him, the Ministry has recently been seriously involved in development of an innovation policy in different directions including creation of infrastructure of innovation activity and organisational mechanisms of its development. Besides, according to Goloshchapov, the Ministry is currently participating in development of different draft bills aimed at promoting development of science, technology and practical realisation of new projects. For example, the Deputy Minister explained that the law on science and science awards might soon be amended and a system of venture support for innovation projects was being prepared.

This set of measures in general is aimed at intensified development of Russia's national innovation system, Goloshchapov stated. "In the coming years this system will be developed and presented at the ministerial collegium and later coordinated in the Russian government," the Deputy Minister of Industry, Science and Technology stated.
