Mass Marriages Mark Mother's Day

Citizens and guests in Peru witnessed an incredibly unprecedented show. In Lima, the capital of the country, 78 pairs got married simultaneously. These unusual marriages became a celebration of the national holiday, the Mother's Day.

The newly married couples had the best restaurants and hotels of the city at their disposal. Confectioners prepared the best present for the young couples. They baked a cake that was about two meters high. It was baked so that all men and women that got married on Mother's Day could get a piece of the cake each.

The newly married couples will spend the honey-moon in the ancient city of Cuzco. At that, all ceremonial celebrations were paid for by the prefecture Miraflores, one of Lima's districts.
