Lent in Kremlin

Dining halls of Kremlin, Government House and other government buildings are taking good care of their officials.

As press-secretary of the department of presidential affairs Victor Khrekov reported in his interview to RIA “Novosti”, government's food suppliers fully comply with the Orthodox traditions.

Therefore, all dining halls, not only in the president's administration, but also those in the parliament and supreme court include all dishes specially prepared for fasting.

Lent officially began on Monday. However, since Monday was Russian national holiday (Fatherland Defender's Day), all dining halls began arranging their menu from Tuesday onward.

According to Khrekov, Tuesday's lunch included salad “Health” made of cabbage, carrots with nuts and honey. It also included famous Russian Lenten borsch with mushrooms, buckwheat, and pilaf with dried fruits.
The cost is relatively low, only 5-10 rubles (approximately 25 cents).

According to the head of food services at the government's house Zoya Romanova, this recent tradition of Lenten meals is very well acepted among Russian politicians. Even those who do not follow the tradition enjoy a wide array of vegetable dishes, dishes made of mushrooms and various soups.
