Russian Defence Minister Supports Creation of Effective International Security System

Russian Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov has supported the creation of an international security system "capable to effectively resolve problems in a civilised manner". The Russian Minister expressed this standpoint before his meeting with Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko in Minsk.

At the meeting the sides discussed security issues of the Union State of Russia and Belarus. "Due to the global instability we must secure safety of our states and people," Lukashenko stated before the beginning of the meeting.

When touching upon issues to be discussed at a joint collegium of the Russian and Belarussian Defence Ministries, Sergei Ivanov stated that they would include the unification of laws on military men's social protection. For example, the participants will discuss the draft concept of the law "On military duty and military service" as well as drafts of a number of urgent legal acts of the Union State on defence, military service and military men's social protection.

The Russian Defence Minister arrived in the Belarussian capital on Friday. He has already had negotiations with Belarussian Defence Minister Leonid Maltsev, at which they also discussed security issues of the Union State of Russia and Belarus.
