Russian Muslims Pray Every Day for an End to Iraq War

Every day the Muslims in all Russia's mosques pray for an end to the war in Iraq and restoration of peace in that region, Sheikh Ravil Gainutdin, chairman of Russia's Council of Muftis, said in a RIA Novosti interview on Tuesday.

"The Muslims of Russia align themselves with the people of Iraq and anxiously watch the progress of events in that country," the mufti emphasised.

Speaking of the Muslims' attitude to the American-British campaign against Iraq, Gainutdin noted that "no one has the right to interfere in the internal affairs of sovereign countries and dictate one's will to them". According to the mufti, Russian Muslims "do not interfere in the politics and internal affairs of other countries". "Only the Iraqi nation is entitled to decide its future and choose its own leaders," he concluded.
