Matters of military transit to Kaliningrad will be considered separately

On Wednesday at a press conference in Moscow governor of the Kaliningrad region Vladimir Yegorov stated that the matter of military transit into the Kaliningrad region from the mainland Russia and back across Lithuania after the EU expansion would be discussed separately.

According to him, this matter was not raised separately at the present negotiations with the European Union on the problem of the Kaliningrad region. At the same time he stated that as the military grouping was staying so the corresponding military transit should be preserved.

The head of the Kaliningrad region stated that at the moment there were no problems with that. The military transit was effected in accordance with the agreement concluded between Russia and Lithuania. The agreement is expected to stay in force even after Lithuania's accession to the European Union. Nevertheless, Yegorov indicated, its modernization would be required.
