Russian and Mongolian border commissioners meet

Russian and Mongolian border commissioners have discussed measures to stabilise the situation on the Tyva sector of the Russian-Mongolian border, said Nikolai Plotnikov, aide to the chief of the main staff of the Federal Border Service (FPS). Continued thefts of livestock and cross-border grazing, often accompanied by violent clashes, have created a serious problem for frontier guards of the two countries. During the meeting, held last Tuesday on the sector of the Kyzyl border unit /the Republic of Tyva within Russia/, the sides expressed themselves in favour of continued work by joint commissions in finding and returning livestock stolen or grazing across the border. While earlier the recovery rate was less than 10 per cent, the latest figures have risen to more than 60 per cent. The next step, according to the sides, may be joint preventive and explanatory measures among the border population of Tyva and Mongolia to preclude frontier violations.
